Nothing gets me more fired up than when well-intentioned business owners make easy-to-avoid mistakes that end up repelling the exact clients they want to attract (often without even realizing it!)
I recently had an experience trying to hire a professional organizer that very quickly had me go from willing to invest thousands on the spot, to getting so frustrated I ordered a few baskets on Amazon and called it a day.
So fair warning: this episode is totally bordering on a rant – BUT you will learn 3 Key Things that Repel Clients so that you don’t make these same mistakes in your business.
#1. Not making it EASY to hire you
You want all roads in your business to lead to working with you.
Do you have a link to your website in your Facebook Profile, your Instagram bio, etc?
Once people get to your website, is it 100% clear how people take the next step to work with you / purchase from you?
Do you have a very clear “buy now” or “book a call” button in multiple places on your site?
Do you have a sales page describing your product and service, how it works, what people can expect, and how people can enroll or purchase?
Does that link go right to a purchase page or scheduler (rather than people needing to take extra steps like email you and wait for a response)?
Bottom line: you want to set your business to enroll your top-tier clients QUICKLY + EASILY.
#2. Not activating your client’s “Vision” AND “Pain Points” prior to purchase
When initially connecting with clients, you want to ask questions that paint a picture of the ULTIMATE vision your people have for their life. This is what creates DESIRE to purchase from you.
Your marketing and messaging should be articulating what life is like after your client has their problem solved through your work/product.
You ALSO want to touch on what is FRUSTRATING/ CHALLENGING for your customer so they are both excited to work with you AND they understand how much it is costing them not to work with you or get their problem solved.
When you have a consultation with a potential client, are you only asking them what is going WELL in their life or diverting them away from how much their current problem is costing them?
Are you powerfully activating their vision in consults, in your website copy, and in your marketing materials so that people can see and feel and imagine how great life is going to be when they work with you / get their problem solved?
Are you asking “what is frustrating you most about this?” and “what is your dream solution / what do you really want?”
Bottom line: keep your clients excited and ready to purchase from you by painting a picture of how your offer will help them move away from frustration and into what they truly want.
#3. Waiting too long between initial contact and enrollment
When people are initially activated in their vision, they are the most excited and ready to buy. But as time goes on, that enthusiasm and willingness to invest diminishes QUICKLY.
Are you taking more than 24 hours to get back to a potential client after they reach out to you about working together?
Are you booking your consult with them more than 2-5 days after they contact you?
If you do have a consult and people need to “think about” working with you, are you booking a follow up call 2-3 days after your initial conversation? (Pro tip: this increased sales DRAMATICALLY. Do not just say ok, well let me know! Schedule a call to follow up on your proposal.)
If you aren’t able to book a consult or work with people right away, are you sharing what it WILL look like to work with you and what the next steps are so that you set expectations and keep your client’s vision activated?
Bottom Line: make sure to get back to people QUICKLY and book your call or enroll them into a paying client as soon as possible. If you can’t work with someone or have a call with them right away, are you keeping them engaged and excited to work together?
